Ruxandra Barac studied classical singing at the Bucharest Academy of Music and then at the Luxembourg Music Conservatoire with Ionel Pantea. She has participated in master classes in Hungary, Denmark, Luxembourg and Norway.
After her studies she was employed by the Romanian Radio in Bucharest where she was given many solo parts in vocal symphonic works, in collaboration with the Academic Choir, the National Orchestra and the Radio Chamber Orchestra. She also recorded songs and opera arias, accompanied by the Radio Chamber Orchestra (2001).
At the International George Enescu Festival in 1999 she sang Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni. Her debut at the Romanian National Opera in Bucharest was in 2000 in the role of Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart). She also had concerts with the Philharmonic Societies of Bucharest and other cities in Romania.
In 2001 she sang Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel by Humperdinck in Luxembourg and Paris and then Dorabella in Così fan tutte by Mozart in Luxembourg and Echternach.
She has given numerous concerts and recitals in Europe and abroad: Tel Aviv and Jerusalem (1994), Athens and Thessaloniki (1995), Hamburg (1996), Hanover (1999), Munich (2000), Budapest and Majk (2000), Echternach and Luxembourg (2001), Paris (2001).
She was recruited for the 2002/03 season by the opera studio “Les Jeunes Voix du Rhin” at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg, where she sang A lady with a hat-box/A foreign singer in Postcard from Morocco by Dominick Argento, Armelinde in Cendrillon by Pauline Viardot and The Mother in Larmes du couteau by Martinů.
For the 2003/04 season she was employed at the Centre National d’Insertion Professionnelle d’Artistes Lyriques in Marseille. In December 2003 she was invited to sing El amor brujo by Manuel de Falla at the Avignon Opera, in June 2004 she was Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart) and Meg Page (Falstaff by Verdi) at the Château de Malijay under the auspices of the Opéra d’Avignon et des Pays de Vaucluse.
She sang the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte at the Opéra de Toulon in December 2005, and in 2006 she sang the role of La Reine des Îles Aloha in Rayon des Soieries by Manuel Rosenthal at the Avignon Opera.
At the Opéra de Toulon Ruxandra sang the roles of Countess Ceprano and Giovanna in Verdi’s Rigoletto (2008) and the role of Meg Page in Verdi’s Falstaff (2009). Her debut at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence in the role of Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart) was in 2010. In 2011 and 2012 she was on tour in France in the title role of the Tragédie de Carmen by Bizet.
In Luxembourg Ruxandra Barac has sung many concerts, including the solo parts of Beethoven’s 9th symphony and Verdi’s Requiem at the Luxembourg Philharmonie.
Since 2007 she has been teaching the piano and giving voice lessons both privately and at the International School of Luxembourg.
